Populus alba also known as White Poplar was first introduced in South Eastern Europe and has since been popular across Europe, especially the UK. It is well known for its vivid foliage which looks spectacular throughout the Spring to Autumn months. White Poplar can be seen displaying bright green foliage with silver-white undersides during the spring and summer. The leaves are a rounded shape and provide a magnificent display of colour with the green contrasting amazingly against a bright summer’s sky which will make any garden look amazing. The foliage turns bright yellow during Autumn providing a beautiful display in a garden during a time when many gardens seem duller. White Poplar also displays white bark which is smooth and bright when young but gets darker and rougher as the tree ages.
Populus alba is easy to grow and can withstand coastal winds as well as clay soils. Grows best in wet soils.
