This small deciduous tree, one of the ‘Little Girl Hybrids’ comes from the US National Arboretum where it was developed in the mid 1950’s to become a small tree with a magnificent floral display. This flower bearing tree can be seen with bright pink-purple flowers and oval shaped petals during the end of spring to brighten any garden. ‘Susan’ grows to a height of around 3-8m tall when mature providing a small easily managed tree, perfect for even small spaces. When not in bloom, this tree can be seen with a dark green foliage.
Unusually for Magnolia’s, ‘Susan can tolerate alkaline soils, and prefer to be sited in rich, well-drained soil. Magnolia ‘Susan’ will perform better when sheltered from any strong winds and enjoys plenty of sunlight. A must-have for every small garden. Fully hardy
