Amelanchier lamarkii or known to many as the Serviceberry or the Juneberry is a small tree which has become very common across Western Europe and is very popular as a garden tree or in nature reserves for its amazing looks all year round with it having some sort of interest no matter the season is.
Beginning in the springtime the Serviceberry begins to produce small clusters of white flowers along its branches which will cover the entire tree from top to bottom in white. Later in the spring a bright green foliage will begin to form on the tree and will provide a very beautiful sight on into the summer months. These leaves will then become a beautiful rich red colour in the autumn time giving the tree a spectacular display of foliage. Furthermore the Serviceberry also produces well rounded fruits in the summer time which are red then and will turn black adding a nice contrast to the foliage appearing on the tree. These small fruits are also edible which really makes this tree perfect for gardens. You can expect the lamarkii to grow to a small height of around 3-5 meters in height which will make it fit in very well in any garden by not being too large and overcrowding the area, as well as its very proper oval shape which will mean a very neat looking tree, even with little work. The serviceberry performs well in well drained and fertile soil. It grows best in Acidic soil but also will be able to handle Clay soils.
