Salix alba ‘Tristis’ also known as the Golden Willow is an outstanding variant which is a hybrid of Salix babylonica and Salix vitellina ‘Pendula’. It is known to be one of the most beautiful weeping willow trees found in the UK and has been given Award of Garden Merit in 2002.

Golden Willow displays long and low hanging branches with long narrow leaves which arrive early spring in a beautiful silver-green colour which provides an outstanding view of the tree and can brighten any area around it. The foliage will fall during autumn after they become a magnificent bright yellow colour. During spring some small yellow catkins also appear which is a great addition to the magnificent foliage. Tristis grows to have a very broad and weeping shaped crown.

Golden Willow will thrive in most soils providing they are moist and can withstand most conditions. The Golden Willow grows best in a large open space making it more suited towards large gardens and parks but with regular pruning could fit into smaller gardens.
