From the south-eastern part of Asia, Quercus myrsinifolia also known as the Bamboo-leaved Oak or the Chinese Evergreen Oak is a medium sized, slow growing tree with a type of foliage that is different to most oaks.

During spring, Bamboo-leaved Oak produces small catkins which last most of spring and on into the summer. Female flowers can be seen produicing small acorns which will last late into Autumn until they are blown off by the Autumn winds. Bamboo-leaved Oak grows into a medium sized tree with a rounded, half-open crown and has quite a large spread, some up to around 10 metres. It will grow to a height of around 12m which will make it perfect for some larger gardens or even Parklands. The evergreen foliage droops down with 12cm long, slight serrated leaves that emerge red before turning green at the leaf tips.

Bamboo-leaved Oak is a very easy to grow tree with being able to tolerate any well drained, fertitle soil. It is commonly used as a shelter tree due to its hardiness and tolerance to wind exposure.
