Bush

The Oriental Plane, scientifically known as Platanus orientalis, is a majestic deciduous tree that is highly admired for its grand size and striking appearance. This tree can grow to impressive heights, typically reaching between 20 to 30 meters when mature, with a spread that can extend up to 25 meters. Its broad, rounded crown and expansive canopy make it a notable presence in parks and large gardens.

One of the key features of the Oriental Plane is its distinctive bark, which peels away in irregular patches to reveal a mosaic of creamy white, green, and tan beneath. This exfoliating bark is not only attractive but also helps the tree manage pest and disease challenges. The leaves are another highlight, broadly lobed and palmately shaped, often measuring up to 15–25 cm across. In autumn, these leaves turn a rich golden-yellow, providing a stunning seasonal display.

Platanus orientalis thrives best in well-drained, loamy soils but is adaptable to a variety of soil types, including clay and sandy soils. It prefers full sun to partial shade, ensuring it receives adequate light for optimal growth. This tree is also known for its resilience in urban environments, tolerating pollution and compacted soils. Notably, the Oriental Plane is a long-lived species, often gracing landscapes for several centuries, making it a valuable addition to any space seeking both beauty and longevity.
