Pinus radiata / Monterey Pine
Introduced in 1833 by David Douglas, this magnificent pine was originally from the Coast of California and Mexico and has since become one of the most widely-planted pines in the world. P. radiata also has been awarded the Award of Garden Merit in 2002.

Monterey Pine will usually grow around 1m per year for about 20-30 years until slowing down in later life, making this tree a very fast growing and easy to grow tree. During its later life, the tree will look magnificent with a large cluster of shiny, bright green foliage giving it an amazing look, especially during the winter months to give some colour to the garden.  Clusters of cones can also be seen hanging on the branches which will quite often remain for several years. A very suitable specimen for parklands and large gardens.

A very easy to grow tree. Able to withstand cold winter temperatures. Thrives on most well-drained soil types. Able to withstand costal conditions.
