Commonly known as the Maritime or Bournemouth Pine, the pinaster is a popular tree across Europe for its many uses. It is well known for supplying a large amount of turpentine and resin in France.

Maritime Pine can be seen displaying dark reddish brown bark which overtime will begin to become patchy with age. The Pine displays magnificent bright green foliage all year round with short needle like leaves which keep a bright colour throughout the darker parts of the year. Small shiny brown cones get produced during winter which grow in pairs on the tree and will fall off with the autumn winds. The pinaster will grow to be around 12m at maturity and will grow in a fan shaped crown, looking grand in any garden or park.

P. pinaster grows well in dry and sandy soils and is able to withstand pollution as well as costal winds. Not resistant to frost.
