Introduced in 1981 into the UK, the Yellow Lilly also known as the Magnolia ‘Yellow Bird’ was created in the Brooklyn Botanical Garden as a variation of the Magnolia.

During its early stages, the Yellow Bird will begin to flower during April / May and will be seen with creamy yellow flowers which will provide a beautiful display in the garden especially when paired with the deep green foliage which can be seen on the tree not long after the flowers come into bloom. This magnificent display of colour will last throughout the summer time until the flowers are eventually blown off of the Yellow Bird in the autumn winds and the leaves turn to a yellow-brown colour before eventually falling off by the end of autumn.

Yellow Bird when mature can reach heights of up to 10 metres in size with a spread of around 6 metres. Performs best in acidic, well drained soil with good exposure to sunlight but some shelter from wind.
