Laurus Nobilis, also known as Bay Laurel is a slow growing, evergreen tree that is native to the Mediterranean since the time of the Romans. It is prized for its aromatic evergreen leaves, being awarded the Award of Garden Merit.

Bay Laurel can be seen with a deep green foliage all year with leaves that can reach up to 10cm in length. These leaves have a leathery texture to them and have a narrow but oval like shape which looks amazing, especially on a bright summer day. Bay Laurel is also very popular among Mediterranean cookery as it’s aromatic leaves can be used in cooking once dried in direct sunlight. During spring, Bay blooms with small green-yellow flowers in small dense clusters which will last until early summer which is then followed by some glossy, dark purple berries. Can grow to heights between 3-12m but can easily be controlled with pruning.

Bay Laurel performs best in full sunlight or partial shade and prefers rich, well drained soils. Is commonly used in containers or small gardens but can also be used as a hedge or screen.
