The Acer platanoides 'Columnare', commonly known as the Upright Norway Maple, is a distinctive and elegant tree valued for its columnar growth habit. This deciduous tree features a tightly upright form, making it an excellent choice for urban landscapes, narrow spaces, or as a striking vertical accent in gardens. Its mature height typically reaches around 12-15 meters, with a spread of about 3-5 meters, creating a stately, narrow silhouette that stands out in any setting.

One of the key features of the Upright Norway Maple is its dense, dark green foliage, which turns to a brilliant yellow in the autumn, adding seasonal interest to the landscape. The leaves are broad and lobed, providing a lush canopy during the growing season. Additionally, the tree produces small, yellow-green flowers in the spring, which are followed by characteristic winged seeds known as samaras.

The Upright Norway Maple is adaptable to a variety of soil types, thriving in well-drained, loamy soils but also tolerating clay, sand, and urban conditions. It prefers full sun to partial shade, although it can endure some shade, making it versatile for different planting sites. This hardy tree is also relatively low-maintenance once established, with good resistance to pests and diseases. Its robustness and aesthetic appeal make it a popular choice for both residential and commercial landscapes.
